Chocolate Cake

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 cup of cocoa powder
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup yogurt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. lemon zest
  • 1 1/2 stick of unsalted butter (or 3/4 cup)
Sauce:
  • 1 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup of cocoa
  • 1 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 cup unsalted butter cut into cubes
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation:
  1. In a bowl, sift the flour, baking powder, and cocoa.
  2. Mix and set aside
  3. In a small bowl, mix the eggs, vanilla, and lemon zest and set aside.
  4. With an electric mixer, beat the butter and sugar on high speed for about 1 minute.
  5. Add the egg mixture and beat again for 2 min.
  6. Scrape the sides of the bowl and blend the flour mixture until combined.
  7. Add the milk and yogurt and beat on medium-high speed for about 2 to 3 min until it gets fluffy.
  8. Grease the bundt pan, pour the batter, and bake at a temperature of 350*F for 25 to 40 minutes.
  9. When done, let the cake rest for 1 min then turn it over onto the serving dish.
  10. Prepare the sauce while the cake is baking as you will need to pour the sauce over the cake as soon as the cake it turned onto a serving dish.
To prepare the sauce:
  1. In a small saucepan, cook the sugar, sifted the cocoa powder, milk, butter, and vanilla over high hear.
  2. Bring just to the boiling point, remove immediately, and set aside until the cake is done.
  3. Pour half the mixture on the cake and place the other half in a bowl to serve with the cake.
  4. Serve with strawberries or raspberries on the side.
